Music of Paul Basler

Paul Basler is Professor of Horn at the University of Florida where he teaches horn and undergraduate composition courses and has been a member of the faculty since 1993. One of the most performed composers of his generation, his music have been received with enthusiastic acclaim throughout the world, the New York Times describing his music as “virtuosic and highly athletic.”

Journey

Journey is a dramatic 12-minute single movement work for horn and piano. It was written in 2017 for James Naigus and premiered at the 2017 Kendall Betts Horn Camp.

Passages

Passages for flute, horn, and piano was commissioned by and written for Jennifer Brimson Cooper and Zachary A. Cooper.
This commission was funded in part by the Meir Rimon Commissioning Assistance Program of the International Horn Society.

The premiere performance was at the Northwest Horn Symposium at Central Washington State University in April, 2016 with Jennifer Brimson Cooper, Zachary A. Cooper​ and the composer on piano. The work deals with the aftermath of the end of a long term relationship. There are a few quotes from previous works dealing with the same issue. In the end, all is well.​
